Shanghai: Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel

Another work trip scheduled for Shanghai at the end of this month, but our usual hotel is booked up. So instead, I’m getting put up at the Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel in Pudong, Shanghai, which means I immediately had to go do some research.
This is the Dubai-based group’s first foray into China, designed by Arata Isozaki, the same architect who designed LACMA and Barcelona’s Olympic Stadium in 1992.
The complex is actually home to a massive arts and cultural center, with an art museum, a luxury mall, a theatre, and an outdoor event space. The lobby of the hotel looks amazing at 16 meters high, with the “Thousand Character Essay” written in Chinese calligraphy on the walls.
Rooms are spacious, feng shui approved, with hardwood floors and couches, AND gorgeous soaking tubs and rain showers.

I’m definitely looking forward to testing the food at the Shanghainese restaurant, Shang-High (okay, so the name needs a little work).
All in all, this is me NOT complaining about the hotel switcheroo.
